Foundation Repair Permits & Engineering in Round Rock
What the City of Round Rock requires before, during and after a foundation repair, why the engineer matters, and how we handle it for you.
Do You Need a Permit for Foundation Repair in Round Rock?
Yes. The City of Round Rock lists Foundation Repair as its own residential permit type, and the city's own permit reports show it's a busy one: 19 residential foundation repair permits were applied for in May 2026 alone. We handle the permit for you.

What the City Requires
- Assumption of Engineer of Record letter, sealed and signed, naming the engineer responsible for the repair.
- Engineered foundation plan, sealed and signed, showing the repair design.
- Final engineered report, uploaded to the permit before the city will perform the final inspection.
- Fee: $125, non-refundable, paid online or by check.
- Review: typically three to five business days after the application is accepted. Expedited review isn't offered.
- Expiration: the permit becomes invalid if work doesn't start within six months of issue.
- Inspections: scheduled through the portal by 4 p.m. for the next business day, Monday through Friday. Two inspections of each type are included; after two failures, re-inspections cost $75.
Why the Engineer Matters
Texas has no state licensing program for foundation repair contractors; a 2013 legislative analysis described the absence of state standards for the trade. That makes the independent engineer your safeguard. Under the Texas Section of ASCE's repair guidelines, the engineer should personally visit the site, be in charge of the investigation, seal the repair plan and approve any changes, arrange a post-repair elevation survey with a copy to you, and may issue a letter stating the work generally conforms to the plan. Keep that letter and the permit record together. A buyer's inspector will ask for both.
Who Issues the Permit Where You Live
- Inside Round Rock city limits, plus the Chandler Creek and Vista Oaks MUDs: City of Round Rock Building Inspections.
- Brushy Creek and other MUDs in the city's extraterritorial jurisdiction: outside city limits, so the city permit doesn't apply. We confirm what applies at your address and still have the repair engineered. See Brushy Creek.
- Georgetown: lists foundation repair as a permit type in its online portal. See Georgetown.
- Cedar Park, Leander, Hutto, Pflugerville, Taylor: each city runs its own building department. We confirm the requirement for your address before we schedule.
Not sure which side of the line you're on? The city's online Address Checker shows it, and we check it for every job.
Historic Homes
Properties in Round Rock's historic overlay need a Certificate of Appropriateness before a building permit for alterations. Foundation work is mostly hidden, but we'll help you confirm whether your project triggers one. See Old Town.
Digging Safely
Before we excavate for piers or drains, utility lines are marked through Texas811, which asks for at least two working days' notice. The service is free.
